Visit to Bsides Tampa 2024

Hey everyone!

This past weekend I was at Bsides Tampa! I got to say it was a fun trip! As someone deeply passionate about cybersecurity and constantly seeking to expand my knowledge in the field, this event was an opportunity I couldn't afford to miss. Little did I know that it would turn out to be one of the most enriching experiences of my professional life.

One of the most striking aspects of BSides Tampa was the sense of camaraderie that permeated the entire event. Despite the diverse backgrounds and skill levels of attendees, there was an overwhelming spirit of inclusivity and collaboration. From seasoned industry veterans to newcomers eager to learn, everyone was welcomed with open arms.

Networking opportunities were abundant, providing me with the chance to connect with fellow cybersecurity enthusiasts, exchange ideas, and share experiences. Engaging in conversations with professionals from various sectors of the industry offered fresh perspectives and insights that I wouldn't have gained otherwise. It was incredibly inspiring to witness the passion and dedication that each individual brought to the table.

Among the plethora of enriching sessions, one that stood out to me was the lecture by Bryson Bort, CEO of Scythe.io. His talk was a group participation to conduct an Incident Response. His insights into the evolving landscape of cybersecurity, coupled with his practical advice on threat intelligence and risk management, were truly enlightening. Bryson's passion for the industry and his dedication to driving positive change left a lasting impression on me and reinforced my commitment to advancing cybersecurity practices in my own work.

While there, I had the pleasure to interview some folks for the GRCguy Youtube Channel.

The first interview was Brandy Jackson CEO of https://www.scoutlier.com/ . She talked about the importance of hands on work on projects for students interested in engineering and technology. I found it really impressive!

Next we interviewed Jennifer Roman, she is the owner of https://eloquentresumes.com/. She spoke about the power of believing in oneself and pursuing your passion. It was incredibly motivating and she offers coaching. Check her out!

As I reflect on my experience at BSides Tampa, I am filled with a profound sense of gratitude and optimism. The connections forged, knowledge gained, and memories created will undoubtedly stay with me for years to come. More than just a conference, BSides Tampa was a celebration of the vibrant cybersecurity community and a testament to the power of collaboration and shared learning.
